When we lived in Tucson, I was fanatical about decorating for every season. I pulled out my ‘happy fall’ decorations on Labor Day weekend. Thanksgiving went up the day after Halloween, etc.
These days, I’ve been finding myself decorating less and less. Perhaps it’s that I work full-time now and am just a lot busier?
But I think in large part it’s because I live somewhere with four distinct seasons - the outdoors does the decorating for me! I was talking about it with Juliet the other day — and she was saying “in Tucson there wasn’t really spring, there was like 7 months of summer, and then fall-winter was kind of the same for the other 5 months”. I’d concur with that assessment.
In Flagstaff we have the opposite ratio: probably 4-5 months of winter, but then legitimately a solid 3 months of spring, 2 of summer, and 2-3 of fall (depending on when the snow starts). And I love it!
There’s just a hint of coolness in the air the last few days: it’s still sunny and 70F, but the nights are colder, and I find myself in the mood for soup. I think I’ll wait a bit before I pull out my autumnal welcome mat though.
How about you? Are you big into marking the changing of the seasons? The older I get, the more I love the rhythms!
I’m going to try to write these posts more regularly! Make sure you don’t miss one…
The outdoors does the decorating- that’s such a fun outlook! 🍂 (and foreign to me 😆😆)
I'm in more of a Tucson mode in New Orleans. Hot, hot, and more hot. And no decorating, either. I like decorations, but just don't have the time to get it done. We'll get something up by Halloween.
