Being an Enneagram 1 is a whole THING, y’all. All month I’ve been wanting to write a newsletter… but I’ve been short on time / feeling pressured to use my time to make reels. (Thanks for nothing, Instagram algorithm.)1
And then I get weird and in my head about how I *said* this was going to be a weekly, Wednesday newsletter — and I haven’t posted in almost a month; how can I just randomly post on a THURSDAY.
But, I feel like writing. So I’m going to break my own arbitrary rules and do so! Here comes an old school update, just for you.
We went to the staff pumpkin carving at Lowell, and Eleanor free-handed this amazing Mockingjay (seriously, where does this artistic talent come from?? Noel and I are both bewildered).
And Juliet made a cute toothy one that kinda matches her own toothy grin.
I’ve started going back to the gym more2, and Sunday night I dragged the whole family for a racquetball evening that was HILARIOUS. The girls were soooo bad. There was a lot of squealing and ducking.
I DNFed the latest Mure book. I finished, but did not enjoy, Jenny Colgan’s last 2 books before this one - Christmas Shop something and School by the Sea. I think I’m done with her? And that’s so strange, because just 3-4 years ago she was an auto buy author for me. I think I let the delicious accents on the audiobooks overwhelm my better judgment. Or, maybe her writing has changed? I’m not sure. Any Colgan fans want to weigh in?
Meanwhile, we’re in that in-between where it’s still a little bit fall, but also a little bit winter. Overnight lows in the 20s, snow on the peaks, but still highs in the high 40s-low 50s, and a few tenacious leaves hanging on. I’m enjoying the crisp walks I’ve been taking!
I hope you enjoy this random Thursday meander. I’m kind of proud of myself for breaking my own rules! So tell me — how have YOU been stepping out of YOUR comfort zone lately?
Honestly, the algorithm has SUCKED recently. If you haven’t been around much on the socials, and you want to like a post or two on Insta or FB that is *not* the #sillysundayshelf… that would be super awesome! (The #sillysundayshelf does so well I think it’s all that Insta and FB are showing people anymore. 😩)
The acid reflux remains truly awful. Still six weeks till my gastroenterologist appointment… fingers crossed I can get this improved! In the meantime, hoping exercise helps…? Maybe?
Let go of the guilt. These platforms make their own rules and while "engagement" is good...really, just enjoy what you enjoy. I don't think most of us (?) realize when newsletters come out unless there's something specific we are waiting for. So don't worry! This is enjoyable when it arrives.
People are even complaining about google's algos lately! I am happily living my reel free life with browser only insta, ha.
BTW, good for you to go to the gym! I think I would feel intimidated going to a gym in a city with so many pro athletes. There are a few pro runners in my apartment complex and I always hope I don't see them on my runs haha
